Privacy Policy

What we collect

VocabSharp collects only what's needed to deliver a personalized vocabulary learning experience:

  • Email address — used for sign-in and optional daily word emails.
  • Learning progress — your word bank, review history, Elo rating, streak data, and achievement badges.
  • Custom words — words you manually add to your bank.
  • Sentences you write — submitted during practice sessions for AI feedback. These are not stored server-side after the response is generated.
  • Email preferences — whether you've enabled daily emails, your preferred send times, and timezone.

How data is stored

Your primary data store is localStorage in your browser. This means your data lives on your device first.

If you sign in, your progress is synced to Supabase (our cloud database) so you can access it across devices. Cloud sync is optional — the app works fully offline.

Third parties

We share data with these services only as needed to operate VocabSharp:

  • Anthropic (Claude AI) — processes your practice sentences to generate feedback. Sentences are sent to Anthropic's API and are not stored by VocabSharp after the response.
  • Resend — delivers daily word emails. Receives your email address only.
  • Sentry — captures error reports to help us fix bugs. May include technical context (browser type, error stack traces) but no personal data.
  • Vercel — hosts the application. Standard web server logs (IP address, request URL) are retained per Vercel's privacy policy.

Cookies & tracking

VocabSharp does not use cookies. We use localStorage for essential app functionality only (storing your learning progress). There are no analytics trackers, advertising pixels, or third-party cookies.

Your rights

You can exercise these at any time from your Profile page:

  • Export your data — download a JSON file of all your stored data.
  • Delete your account — permanently removes all your data from our servers.
  • Disable emails — turn off daily word emails from your profile or via the unsubscribe link in any email.

Deleting your account removes your data from Supabase. Data stored in your browser's localStorage is cleared automatically when you delete your account, or you can clear it manually through your browser settings.
